Stuvade Makaroner (Swedish Creamy Macaroni)
A beloved Swedish comfort food, stuvade makaroner are creamy, tender macaroni cooked directly in milk. Perfect as a main dish or a side, especially when paired with falukorv, meatballs, or bacon.
🧂 Ingredients:
5 dl Kungsörnen Gammaldags Idealmakaroner
1 liter whole milk (3% fat)
½ tsp salt
Optional: freshly ground white pepper, a pinch of ground nutmeg, a small knob of butter
👩🍳 Instructions:
In a large saucepan, slowly bring the milk to a gentle boil over medium heat.
Add the macaroni and salt to the boiling milk.
Reduce the heat to low and simmer gently for about 25 minutes, stirring frequently to prevent sticking.
Once the macaroni is tender and the milk has thickened into a creamy sauce, remove from heat.
Season with white pepper and nutmeg to taste. For extra richness, stir in a small knob of butter.
Serve hot, optionally accompanied by falukorv, meatballs, or bacon.
💡 Tip: For a slightly sweet twist, add a teaspoon of sugar to the stuvning.
