Vitamin D in oil or water for children

ACO D-drops prevents vitamin D deficiency in children up to two years old, in some children with special needs up to the age of 5.

Children need vitamin D

Vitamin D helps regulate the levels of calcium and phosphate in the body. These nutrients are needed to build bones and keep teeth and muscles healthy – especially important to growing children. Long term lack of vitamin D can lead to bone deformities such as rickets in children, which is an unusual but severe disease.

ACO D-drops in oil – without palm oil

Palm oil is the most common oil used by both the food and the pharmaceutical industry. The impact on nature where palm oil is produced and, in the long perspective, the impact on the climate is now well documented. As a result of that ACO D-drops oil now is available without palm oil.

When processing vegetable oil Glycerol-based process contaminants such as glycidyl fatty acid esters (GE), 3-MCPD and 2-MCPD are formed. The by far highest levels of GE, 3-MCPD and 2-MCPD are found in palm oil and palm fats. GE is converted to Glycidol after ingestion. Glycidol is genotoxic and a carcinogen in animals and EFSA (the European Food Safety Authority) has concluded that GE is a potential health concern particularly for infants and young children. The exposure of GE primarily comes from palm oil. The recommendation is to replace products with palm oil with alternatives containing other vegetable oils. ACO vitamin D is such a product, containing sun flower oil.

Recommended dose for children 0-2 years: 5 drops daily. Recommended dose for some children up to 5 years: 5 drops daily. 5 drops correspond to approximately 400 IU of vitamin D.
