Lozenges with vitamin B12

OmniVegan B12 contains 1000 μg of the active form of vitamin B12, methylcobalamin, which is absorbed directly into the blood.

B12 is a vital vitamin

Vitamin B12 is an essential vitamin, which is of great importance for several functions in the body. It is needed to be able to form red blood cells and for the cells' metabolism. It is also important for the body's energy metabolism and for the functioning of the nervous system. Vitamin B12 is also important for the signaling substances in the brain so that these can communicate with each other. Vitamin B12 also contributes to a normal turnover of homocysteine. Too high a level of this amino acid can affect the cardiovascular system as well as the cognitive ability.

B12 an important supplement for vegetarians and vegans

Vitamin B12 is mainly found in animal foods such as fish, meat, shellfish, eggs, liver, milk and cheese. There are also inactive forms of vitamin B12 in the diet, especially in vegetables. The inactive forms of the vitamin cannot be assimilated by our bodies. It is therefore important to supplement B12 for those who follow a strict vegan diet, but even for vegetarians who eat dairy products and eggs, the intake of B12 may be too low.

Others who may need supplementation of Vegan B12

In order for vitamin B12 to be absorbed effectively in the body, an auxiliary protein called Intrinsic Factor (IF) is needed, which is formed in the stomach. Together with vitamin B12, the protein forms a complex that enables absorption in the small intestine. Low production of Intrinsic Factor can be due to, for example, dietary habits or various forms of stomach and intestinal problems. For these groups, it is also important to supplement their daily diet with supplements of vitamin B12. With age, the risk of suffering from a lack of vitamin B12 also increases. This is primarily due to impaired absorption in the small intestine, which in turn is due to several underlying causes. Vitamin B12 is often referred to as the "elderly vitamin" for its energy-promoting properties and not least for its importance for cognitive ability.

High strength and efficient absorption

OmniVegan B12 contains methylcobalamin, which is the biologically active form of vitamin B12, which provides efficient absorption in the body. OmniVegan B12 is in the form of lozenges that should melt in the mouth, this provides effective absorption directly via the mucous membranes in the mouth. Each lozenge contains 1000 μg of vitamin B12. This means that in the vast majority of cases a therapeutic level is achieved with one tablet a day. Vitamin B12 has no prescribed upper limit for intake either in Sweden or by European health authorities. There are no known risks of overdose.

Health claims approved for vitamin B12
