In atopic eczema as an alternative to or in combination with steroid treatment. Ichtammol is a tar preparation made from shale. Ichtammol has an antipruritic, anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effect. The cream base essex has softening and protective properties.


Do not use in oozing and infected wounds or in case of hypersensitivity to the active substance ichtammol or to any excipient.


Avoid contact with eyes.

Can dye skin, hair and clothes.

The cream contains cetostearyl alcohol which can cause local skin reactions (e.g. contact dermatitis) and chlorcresol which can cause allergic reactions


Pregnancy: Category A Tar preparation for external treatment can be used during pregnancy.


Breastfeeding: Group I Ichtammol in Essex cream APL 1% cream can be used. However, the cream should not be used on nipples during the breastfeeding period.


Side effects: Can cause eye irritation if cream gets into the eye. Allergic contact dermatitis may occur.

Essex cream is preserved with 0.1% chlorocresol.
