Ceramic painting Water lily Näckros nr 791 JIE Gantofta Ceramics design by Annika Kihlman between year 1971-1975. The object is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or crazing.
Annika Kihlman is known for her humorous clay characters, often with puns in the titles and with connections to fairy tale motifs. She has also made murals in earthenware. Over the years, she has participated in a number of exhibitions, partly individually and together with others.
Jie Gantofta was founded in 1942 by John Evert "Jie" Johnson in Helsingborg. From the beginning, it was not ceramics that were produced, but then wood was the main raw material in the production. Two years after its founding, production moved to Gantofta outside Helsingborg and this is where the production of ceramics started in 1952.
Initially, the ceramics were hand-painted, but it soon became too expensive and the method was replaced with silk screen printing during the latter part of the 50s. From the beginning, it was Jie himself who created the products, but gradually external designers came in and made an impression in the business. Some selected designers for Jie Gantofta are Anita Nylund, Elsi Bourelius, Annika Kihlman, Aimo Nietosvouri and Jie's son Staffan Johnson.
